10 Hugely Loveable Gaming Bosses We Didn't Want To Kill

6. Kessler - Infamous

Talk about an original reason to not want to kill your seemingly mortal enemy: because he just might be you from the future! Sadly, though, it's pretty much too late in Infamous: it's only after you've fatally wounded Kessler in the final battle that he reveals himself to be an alternate future version of protagonist Cole, one who traveled back in time to act as an antagonist to him, in the hope that Cole might then be prepared enough to later take on the true antagonist, The Beast (who in the alternate future ends up killing Cole/Kessler's wife Trish and their children). After that revelation, it's natural for players to feel some regret or confusion about beating the ever-loving snot out of Kessler, though at the same time, Kessler obviously willed this to happen: he needed Cole to be strong enough to kill him in order that he'd be able to take down The Beast, which eventually can happen in Infamous 2 (depending on your choice at the end of the game). A necessary act, then, but not one that came easily to most players. And the guy's part of you, so you have to love him, really.
