10 Hugely Popular Licenses Video Games Can't Get Right
8. Transformers
Love it or hate it, Michael Bay's Transformers series has taken over the world. Loud, bombastic and explosive, the films should really have inspired entertaining video games - they did anything but. The original Transformers game has a notoriously awful camera system which refuses to be controlled, leaving the player stuck or unable to see what lies ahead as they simply cannot get the camera to point ahead. With bad driving controls and boring, repetitive missions, perhaps they won't really want to see what's ahead. Revenge Of The Fallen, the second game in the series, fared slightly better but it's still highly forgettable. Dark Of The Moon was criticised for being rushed and feeling half-finished (the multiplayer mode in particular was terrible) and the overuse of weapon mode was not popular either. Still, there is hope for the Transformers series. The War For Cybertron has been well received, especially the multiplayer mode which features an appealing Horde style mode called Escalation. Fall Of Cybertron followed and was equally well received, although technical issues remained a problem. However, newest instalment Rise Of The Dark Spark, which acts as a movie tie-in and a prequel to War For Cybertron, backfired dramatically. Labelled frustrating and confusing, the game is a real step backwards for the series, highlighting the difficulty developers have had in turning Michael Bay's series into engaging games. Given the immense popularity of the series, that's a major disappointment.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
