10 Iconic Video Game Heroes Nobody Admits Are Absolute Dicks

5. Leon S. Kennedy - Resident Evil 4

Leon S. Kennedy wasn't always bland. In fact, in his Resident Evil 2 debut the rookie cop was the most likeable protagonist the series had birthed so far. Witty, good-hearted yet always believably in-over-his-head, Leon's initial characterisation came with a vulnerability that made him instantly charming and compelling.

But then he became a superhero. Not literally, but by the time the fourth game came around Leon had transformed into an ultra-competent, smart-mouthed spec-ops leader. Gone was the character's distinctive personality in favour of a more general (and more bland) macho persona that mimicked similar cold and sarcastic western heroes of the time.

This time around, Leon seemed to have a general disdain for everyone around him, treating every task with an arrogant self-assuredness like there was something better he could be doing, other than saving the world.

While his characterisation was a bit more balanced in Resident Evil 6, it was still a far cry from the naive and heroic personality the character showed in the second game, and only further cemented Leon as yet another fan-favourite of the series who had been completely stripped of any defining qualities.
