10 Iconic Video Game Influences You'll Find In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

1. The Legend Of Zelda (1986)

The only guidance you're given at the start of the original 1986 NES Legend of Zelda is a scrolling text screen ordering you to find the 8 shards of the Triforce.

You start on an open plain and your first job is to collect a weapon. So you head into a nearby cave where an old man utters the famous phrase: "IT'S DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE. TAKE THIS!" He gives you a sword and promptly disappears. That's it. That's the only guidance you're given before heading out alone to face a world chock full of monsters.

Breath of the Wild starts in a similar fashion: a brief voiceover from an unknown female tells you that you're the saviour of the land. You exit the cave, get blown away by that view, then head down the hill where you meet a mysterious old man telling you where you are and hinting that you might have somewhere important to be. You're then left to get on with adventuring.

Nintendo seemingly drew on the original game to inspire locations in their newest Zelda. What's even cooler is the fact that Nintendo actually prototyped ideas in the style of the original NES classic!
