3. Commander Shepard

Mass Effect is one of the most celebrated video game series of recent times, and Commander Shepard has proved to be a great mascot for the space genre. However, the poor reception of Mass Effect Andromeda signaled a rough few years for the franchise.

Mass Effect was released in 2007, 2010 saw the release of the highly acclaimed sequel Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, despite receiving some controversial criticism, came out in 2012.

This series is everything you'd wish for in an open world game set in space, and an end credit scene in Mass Effect 3 gave fans a glimmer of hope in regard to Shepard's fate.

However, in 2017, fans were instead presented with Andromeda. This game was a far cry from what made the core trilogy great. It was full of uninteresting characters, hilarious glitches and uninspiring missions.

But most unfortunate of all was the lack of Commander Shepard. His omission from Andromeda is proof that Mass Effect may have moved on from their mascot and that he no longer matters anymore.

Yet, with the recent announcement trailer for a return to the Mass Effect franchise, there is a small bit of hope for Shepard's return.
