10 Iconic Video Game Mascots That Don't Matter Anymore

4. Marcus Fenix

For many years, Gears of War was the best new exclusive and helped the Xbox 360 to a successful number of sales. And with it came Marcus Fenix - a battled hardened leader and a new mascot within the video game world.

The Gears of War core trilogy was released from 2006 to 2011 and is regarded as one of the most celebrated video game series of all time. However, with the introduction of next generation consoles, Marcus Fenix has been primarily left behind. That's not to say that he has been completely forgotten - but his time in the limelight is over.

Gears of War 4 (2016) and Gears of War 5 (2019), both released for the Xbox One, follow Fenix's son and his loyal friends. Fenix's story is over as he now takes a backseat in the subsequent games, making only brief appearances.

Marcus Fenix is a casualty of time. He is no longer the relevant mascot from the Xbox 360, but an old hero that sadly does not matter anymore as he has been demoted to a secondary character.
