10 Iconic Video Game Scores That'll Give You Goosebumps

8. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker - Koji Kondo Et Al.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to suggest that this list could have consisted entirely of games from the Legend of Zelda franchise, so stunning and memorable is its music. Indeed, the series itself could have been rolled up into one entry (which would have been a bit of a cheat, lets be honest), but the soundtrack to The Wind Waker stands so far above the rest of the franchise that it deserves singling out.

Even from as early as the title/menu screen, we are met with soft strings and whimsical woodwind sounds; what subtle percussion we do have is quiet, gentle, and almost apologetic lest it step on the toes of the melody.

The intro/prologue music is similarly subtle, though it conveys more menace and foreboding than the title despite utilising the exact same combination of wood and strings, even lacking the percussion this time.

Throughout the entire game, in fact, each new scene, location, enemy, and quest is accompanied by a perfect musical counterpart with no exceptions.

Beautiful, whimsical, playful, hopeful... The Wind Waker score is simply stunning from the first note to the last, and will doubtless bring a tear to the eye of all.

Except maybe Ganondorf... he's horrible.
