10 Iconic Video Game Scores That'll Give You Goosebumps
9. Golden Axe - You Takada
This entry could be seen as something of an outlier, but the quality of You Takada's Golden Axe score should not be underestimated.
When Golden Axe hit the Sega Megadrive, players and critics alike were duly impressed. Not only did the game feature three unique playable characters, a variety enemies to destroy with huge weapons and visually impressive magic attacks, but the soundtrack was on a different level to its peers.
Okay, so it may sound digitised and outdated by today's standards, but if you can look beyond the limitations of the 16-Bit hardware from whence it came, the Golden Axe soundtrack is epic.
The main theme in particular is instantly recognisable to anyone over the age of thirty, and will no doubt evoke those feelings, and bring to mind memories of throwing Skeletons to their deaths from the back of a giant Eagle, going up against Death Adder, and kicking thieving little ass-hat Elves up the arse for stealing your loot around the campfire.
Never has a more epic, Conan-esque soundtrack issued from a 16-Bit system, but if you still aren't convinced, you should definitely check out the modern re-imagining of Adder's Lair from 2012's Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed.
It's just magical.
