10 Iconic Video Game Weapons (That Actually Suck)

3. Steel Sword - Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Halo Assault Rifle
Bethesda Softworks

Take one look at the cover of any one of Skyrim's army of remastering and rereleases, and it's likely a gamer will see a Dragonborn suited and booted in some of the game's iconic iron armour, and armed with a trusty steel sword.

A weapon that really captures the flavour of Skyrim's medieval fantastical setting, steel swords are amongst some of the most easily found weapons right from the off in the game. All Imperial Guards and various NPCs and enemies are armed with the sword, the weapon can be easily crafted at a Blacksmith's Forge, and it will continue to appear in chests and on bodies right from level 2.

However, whilst its dismal stats can be improved continuously throughout a playthrough, the real reason why the Steel Sword sucks so much is just how vanilla it is when put next to what other options players have available to them. Both stylistically and in terms of overall enjoyment, the likes of destructive magic and heavy two-handed weapons just end up looking far cooler and are much more likely to produce a far more fun and memorable experience.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
