10 Iconic Video Games With Hidden Messages You Totally Missed

2. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes - Kojima Erases His Past

While Ground Zeroes was a solid game, there just wasn’t enough of it. It’s essentially one big level that can be completed within two hours on the first run, plus some flimsy bonus missions that take place on the same map. It’s fun while it lasts, which isn’t very long.

While working on Metal Gear Solid V the relationship between creator Hideo Kojima and Konami broke down, and it appears Kojima saw this coming. One of the bonus missions is called “Deja Vu”, which finds the player seeking out the logos of previous Metal Gears games and erasing them.

When the last one disappears, Master Miller congratulates you with the message “You did it, you erased all the markings. But everyone of them will always be with you.” While the mission appeared innocent enough at the time, soon Kojima’s company logo and directing credit disappeared from MGS V cover art and promotional material, confirming the nasty split.

While he’s never confirmed it, this message is clearly a not so subtle swipe at his former employers.
