10 Iconic Video Games You Didn't Realise Also Have TV Shows
1. The Witcher (The Hexer)
With an incredible, in-depth lore and an extraordinary world built by developer CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of this year's must-have games. In it you take on the mantle of famed Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, as he slashes his way across the land trying to find his adoptive daughter, running into terrifying beasts and the corruption of the various lands along the way.
The Witcher itself (Wiedźmin in its native Polish) is actually based on a series of novels and short stories by author Andrzej Sapkowski, which follow the exploits of the titular monster hunters, as well as Geralt and Ciri. Written in the 1990s, these stories were hugely popular in Poland and the books were adapted into both a live action movie and a television series in the early 2000s.
The television series, called The Hexer (Sapkowski's initial preferred translation of the Wiedźmin name), ran for thirteen episodes and was loosely based on the events portrayed in The Last Wish and The Sword Of Destiny - two of Sapkowski's books which focussed on Geralt.
Sadly though, it was terrible. Cheaply made, poorly acted and - perhaps most upsettingly - poorly written, The Hexer is similar to what happens if you let Uwe Boll take on your franchise but somehow worse. Sapkowski has since disowned both the film and television versions of The Witcher, saying in an interview:
"I can answer only with a single word, an obscene, albeit short one."
Best stick to the video games for now then...
