10 Iconic Video Games You Didn't Realise Also Have TV Shows
3. Pac-Man
No, you're not dreaming. The classic game of being chased around a maze while eating fruit was turned into a television show. Quite how Hanna-Barbera saw the plot in taking the basic move n' eat Pac-Man formula and turning it into a saturday morning cartoon is unclear, but they managed to get two seasons and forty-four episodes out of it, so fair play.
Pac-Man is notable not only for its strange subject matter, but also for the fact that it was the first TV series ever to be based on a video game. The show follows Pac-Man, his wife, their child (which raises yet more questions, to be perfectly honest), their dog and cat through the magical Pac-Land which, while being named after Pac-Man, seems to treat him as little more than a casting box to be ticked.
The family are mostly concerned with giving their traditional enemies, the poor ol' Ghosts; Blinky, Inky, Pinky, Clyde and Sue a hard time. The ghosts, who work for a Darth Vader-like character called Mezmaron (who seems to represent the game's programmers) are tasked with stopping Pac-Man from finding and controlling the source of "Power Pellets" - that is to say the white pixels which you pick up in the game.
It's really, really strange, but go on; let's see you make a story out of Pac-Man.
Exactly.
