10 Important Video Game Plot Points Answered In DLC

8. Bright Falls Was An "Altered World Event" - Alan Wake/Control (AWE)

BioShock Infinite DLC Burial At Sea
Remedy

It’s been over a decade since Remedy released Alan Wake in which the titular writer's search for his wife led him down a twisted rabbit hole of shadows and nightmares. It’s pulpy narrative that married elements of Stephen King and David Lynch made for a gripping and wholly fascinating psychological horror experience that fans have been craving more of ever since.

The ominous cliff hanger has kept fans on tenterhooks for years, with two DLC episodes and quasi-sequel American Nightmare being the only continuation of Alan’s story we’ve had. However, these additions only enhanced the mysteries that engulfed Cauldron Lake and never pushed the plot along in any substantial way.

It would take until August 2020 for any new plot details to come to light And they came in the form of Control’s AWE expansion.

As well as being an action-packed outing, AWE was a treasure trove of information that tightly connected the worlds of these games. In short, the event at Bright Falls was another "Altered World Event".

This new framing of events brought a whole new understanding to Wake’s circumstances whilst providing an appropriately strange tease for the upcoming sequel that was officially announced at the 2021 Game Awards.
