10 Important Video Game Plot Points That Were Abandoned
6. God Of War - The Soul Of Ares
Ares is the title character of the original God of War and is the instigator of the game's main plot. Franchise hero Kratos goes on a killing spree to get to him after tricking the former into killing his wife and daughter.
Naturally, the player manages to defeat the god in combat with the Blade of the Gods, ending Ares' tenure as the God of War for good. By the end, Kratos is gifted a new set of blades and inherits his enemy's title.
But our foe may not truly have perished, as the game's God Mode hints of his survival. After completing said mode, Kratos will congratulate the player and informs them that he has found the soul of Ares in a secret chamber. He then considers using it against Zeus, setting up a future plotline for the God of War sequels.
But as longtime fans know, the subplot of Ares and his soul never returns in any subsequent game in the franchise. With the series shifting into Norse Mythology for the newer games, it is unlikely this will ever be resolved.
