10 Important Video Game Plot Points That Were Abandoned
7. Batman: Arkham City - Harley Is Pregnant
Batman: Arkham Asylum did well when it came to teasing the future of the series. Skilled players could find a secret room where plans for a prison within Gotham City were being made, foreshadowing the events of Batman: Arkham City.
Arkham City repeated this strategy when it released in 2011, with numerous Easter eggs in the game world hinting at future plot lines that would be explored in a follow-up. Batman could discover a room and find a pregnancy test belonging to Harley Quinn, implying that she is carrying Joker's baby. This is further solidified by the end credits, which saw the henchwoman start humming 'Hush Little Baby'.
However, it appears as if Rocksteady backtracked this plot element in Batman: Arkham City's DLC, Harley Quinn's Revenge. As players explore the Steel Mill, they can find a crib with numerous negative pregnancy tests discarded - the implication being either the previous test was a false-positive, or Harley had lost the baby.
It's impossible to say whether Rocksteady had committed to the idea of Harley having a Joker Jr. in a third game, or whether the plan had always been to use the failed pregnancy as a means of emphasising her instability post-Arkham City. Either way, it's fun to consider what the series could have looked like had this thread been retained.
