10 Important Video Game Plot Points That Were Abandoned
3. Mortal Kombat X - Dark Raiden vs. Dark Emperor Liu Kang
At the end of Mortal Kombat X, Lord Raiden was corrupted by the Jinsei during the battle against Shinnok. Though Cassie Cage defeated the fallen Elder God, the protector of Earth had been transformed into Dark Raiden just like he was in the original timeline.
The story mode then ended with Raiden threatening the new rulers of the Netherrealm, Liu Kang and Kitana, and warning them not to take any action against Earthrealm. It seemed then that MKX was setting up a big confrontation between the two fallen heroes of the franchise.
When Mortal Kombat 11's story mode first starts, it seems like it's fulfilling the promise left by the previous game with Raiden and his allies attacking Liu Kang's fortress. But by the end of the first chapter, Kronika arrives and takes over as the main villain. The Dark Emperor is then turned into a henchman and due to time manipulation, Dark Raiden disappears and is replaced by his younger, more noble self.
It is a shame that MKX promised a big battle between the two factions only for this storyline to be quickly brushed off in the next game.
