10 Impossible Video Game Boss Battles That Totally Broke You

6. Senator Armstrong (Metal Gear Rising Revengeance)

When you've got a developer like Platinum designing a series of hyper-fast melee combos and aerial acrobatics, matching the player's mastery of combat with a suitably capable boss could've been a masterstroke.

I say 'could've', because Senator Armstrong's final fight was an elongated, overly cheap, flat-out annoying duel that never wanted to end.

Taking place across a good four separate phases all intermingled with cutscenes and quick-time events, if you were brought down during any of them (and we're talking a good half hour's worth of chatter here), it was back to the start.

Like games of old you needed to memorise attack patterns and know when to retaliate, alongside perfecting parries mid-combo and remembering when to get the hell out the way. Mess any of that up and you'd get flattened on the spot - a wound made all the more salty by the Senator berating you or laughing in your face the whole time.

Pure agony.
