10 Impossible Video Games Bosses You Totally Underestimated

4. Psycho Mantis - Metal Gear Solid

It's easy now to see Psycho Mantis as a pushover. His weakness (switching the controller to the second-player port) is practically common knowledge, even among people who never played the original Metal Gear Solid.

But if you take yourself back to 1998, there was no way you could have known this strategy. You either had to hear about it from a strategy guide, or another kid at school who had the strategy guide.

Sure, the game builds him up as the world's best psychic, but when you're also up against the world's best sniper, a giant guy with a minigun, and a robot ninja, a pale, skinny guy with a leather fetish doesn't exactly inspire fear. I mean, what's he going to do, read-my-mind me to death?

As it turns out, yes, that's exactly what he'll do. Aside from creeping you out with his fourth-wall-breaking comments about the saves on your memory card, he can also predict every one of your attacks. And while you're running around trying to figure out what in the name of Big Boss you're supposed to do, he's turning invisible, throwing debris at you, and using his powers to turn your partner, Meryl, against you.

The fight is literally almost impossible going in blind.
