10 Impossible Video Games Utterly Destroyed By Speedrunners
1. Cuphead
Even with the vibrant rubber hose animated visuals and snazzy jazz tunes, Cuphead is one of the most relentlessly unforgiving games going. This run-and-gun title sees players take control of Cuphead and his brother Mugman as they battle through hordes of bosses in an effort to reclaim souls from the Devil.
Like Dark Souls, there is a heavy emphasis on trial-and-error tactics that encourage players to death multiple times per boss battle. Despite this, plucky speedrunners have been attempting to prove difficulty is all an illusion with some scintillating playthroughs of the game since its launch back in 2017.
The Mexican Runner famously produced two sterling runs on the stage at AGDQ in 2018 and 2019, though it is American player ClipBoardGuy who currently holds the Any% world record with his 28:10 set in October 2022. For context, it takes most people around ten hours to complete the most basic playthrough of the game.
Cuphead has a bustling speedrunning community that extends much further than just an Any% run however, with Full Clear, All Flags and All Bosses all popular categories to run.
