Most Final Fantasy games give you more than enough to love in the opening hours to make you feel like you need to play the rest. Then, there's FF13, which straight up said, "let's make them go through a 20+ hour prologue!" Why? Dear god, why?

FF13 is certainly one of the most divisive entries in the phenomenal JRPG franchise. There's plenty to love about it, such as the Paradigm system, enjoyable characters, the unique world of Gran Pulse, and its impressive graphics. But many die-hard FF fans just hated the game, especially after its poorly paced-linear opening.

It takes a long time for FF13 to get started, with essential elements of an FF game, including party customisation, only being introduced hours into your playtime. This wouldn't be so bad if what you were doing was exciting, but the initial transitions from checkpoint to checkpoint have little fun to offer.

Here's a list of titles you can pick up and finish in the time it takes for this game to get started: Undertale, The Last of Us, Super Mario 64, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. FF13 is absolutely worth it, but pick up a different instalment if you want quick gratification.
