10 Incredible Sequels That Came From Terrible Video Games
4. Red Dead Redemption
When it first released, Red Dead Revolver didnt exactly set the world on fire. Not only were western period pieces a rare and virtually dead genre to find in games anyway, when Rockstar's first wild west title hit stores it did nothing to prove that this type of game could be made into a bankable franchise. A derivative and uninspired third-person spaghetti western, the original game in the franchise actually housed a decent amount of potential before it released, but unfortunately didnt quite make the most of its ridiculous and over-the-top setting. But a few years on the back-burner and a new focus on a more serious rework of the genre injected this stilted series with newfound life, and as a result, Rockstar's sequel Red Dead Redemption turned out to be one of the most revered games of the last generation. Improving wholeheartedly on the original by adding a dash of GTA gameplay to the mix, this iconic sequel is still considered the definitive video game depiction of the wild west to this day.
