10 Incredible Sounding Games We Never Got To Play

5. True Fantasy Live Online

This is another one that hits home, as True Fantasy Live Online was a highly anticipated title, planned to be the first MMORPG for the original Xbox. Announced in 2002, it was delayed from its 2003 release date before finally being cancelled in 2004. Supposedly, the cancellation was largely due to Level-5's strained relationship with Microsoft. What was going to separate TFLO, in concept, from many other MMORPGs, was that it wanted to be almost like more of a fantasy world sim. It was going to boast a deep amount of character customization and world interaction, along with an evolving story that would influence gameplay. Players weren€™t forced to all be heroes, you could live your life as a simple lumberjack or trader if you pleased, joining guilds corresponding to each profession and leveling up within them. And much like Fable or GTA: San Andreas, your characters actions would change their appearance over time. This level of interactivity and customization is reminiscent of another MMORPG, Star Wars: Galaxies, which, while not cancelled, went downhill after numerous updates. It leaves one to ponder on what TFLO€™s ultimate fate would have been. Ultimately though, consoles are not the best places for MMO€™s, and in retrospect, the cancellation of a game like TFLO isn€™t that surprising, but nonetheless, still disappointing.
