Sometimes hackers and modders can use their computer wizardry to unearth items and locations we were never meant to find. Occasionally, though, their expeditions into game files can yield surprises that can give us a preview of things to come.

Such was the case when a modder going by the username xxdeathknight72xx discovered a harpoon gun hiding in the game files of Fallout 4 back in November of 2015, just days after the game's launch.

With footage of the hidden weapon showing bubbles appearing when fired, the speculation was that the weapon was an abandoned weapon intended for use underwater. Some speculate it was likely tied to a cut quest titled 20 Leagues Under The Sea.

However, in May of the following year Fallout fans finally got a harpoon gun of their own as part of the Far Harbour DLC. A modified variant of the series' famed Railway Rifle, this weapon would become your best friend when it came to impaling all of the creatures and bandits you'd inevitably cross paths with.

Vastly different in appearance to the cut weapon discovered in the game's files, it's unknown whether this weapon was always intended to appear in the game's DLC.
