10 Incredibly Calm Moments In Otherwise Intense Games

1. Tibetan Village €“ Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Naughty Dog have created a multitude of memorable, narrative moments, but this one is unquestionably one of their finest. In a campaign that sees players evading certain death countless times, it's the moment where we're allowed to wander through a harmonious and amiable Tibetan village high in the Himalayan Mountains that's the most enduring. Playing as franchise figurehead Nathan "Nate" Drake, gamers find themselves in a beautifully rendered settlement that's simply buzzing with activity. Player's can interact with the friendly villagers, kicking a ball to a couple of children and shaking the hands of passers by. You can wander off the main track to pet some livestock or take in the mountaintops that surround the village. The scene essentially acts as a palate cleanser, following on from a triumphant set piece in which Nate fights his way off a train and preceding another dazzling, if not unsettling level in which the same, colourful village is decimated by enemy forces. It's not a moment that Naughty Dog had to include, but we're certainly thankful that they did.
