10 Incredibly Depressing Video Game Stories From 2014
5. Next-Gen Playstation Plus/Games With Gold Offers
Sure getting free games is always a great thing, but it becomes immediately apparent just how little there is to push on the newer consoles in terms of something that isn't a 2D side-scroller, when everything offered on PS3 and 360 are the behemoths of the last generation. Just this month you'll rarely find a sharper contrast between PS Plus showcasing Batman: Arkham Asylum, and PS4 going for... Pix the Cat. Now Pix is good fun - and so is Spelunky and Dust: An Elysian Tale the other two free PS4 titles - but from these to the months-old Road Not Taken or Fez there's not been one where you've thought "Man, this is only possible on my PS4." Instead the more frightening thought that you're phone could handle it tends to creep in instead. On Xbox One it's even worse, as at least the PS Plus titles are good games in their own right. The XO got Halo: Spartan Assault to kick things off (the lowest-rating Halo game of all time) and has limped forward with the likes of Super Time Force ever since. At the very least you'd think Sony and Microsoft would bundle in the wealth of remastered titles that have come out as a appetiser, but instead we're reminded of just how little there is for the new machines.
