10 Incredibly Depressing Video Game Stories From 2014

3. Realising We'd Been Duped - Watch Dogs

How Ubisoft got away with not being sued for false advertising is beyond us - the finished Watch Dogs retail version was literally a completely different render to the one showed in the two years prior. What's worse is Ubi released it with downgraded graphics for the majority, but left the fancier shaders, car light-reflections and general graphical wallop still on the disc - so within a week or so fans had realised they could just flip a switch to restore the original settings. Ubi proclaimed the game wouldn't run as smoothly in the face of scores of Youtube videos proving otherwise, which begs the question why not let the user decide? As consoles become more like not-so-miniature PCs anyway, give us the option to toggle this sort of thing - or better yet release the final product as the all-singing all-dancing franchise-starting behemoth it was supposed to be in the first place.
