10 Incredibly Moving Scenes In Video Games Ruined By Player Input

1. Red Dead Redemption - Going Back For John

Red Dead Redemption is my favourite video game of all-time, and John Marston's death is my favourite video game death of all-time. I can't really remember whether I cried or not when John absorbed that hail of bullets from the men who betrayed him, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I did. It's a masterclass of Rockstar's ability to shock and throw curve balls at us. Unfortunately I feel like this scene is somewhat tainted. I'm not taking anything away from John's death, that was perfectly executed, it's the part just after where you take control of his son, Jack, and have to ride your horse back to the ranch that bothers me. Couldn't they have just arrived in the cut scene? I had literally just watched my character be murdered right before my very eyes, I'd put a lot of hours into Red Dead and I'd spent a lot of time with this character. When you kill that character, I need time to reflect on it, not to be thrown straight into a horse-riding mini-sequence between two excellent cut scenes. This doesn't in any way fault the game for me and it's still superb in every way in my eyes but having to ride back to the spot where my character had died just didn't sit too well with me. Well, there you have it. This list was ordered based around my own personal emotional investment and enjoyment of the games. The games that I really liked are more likely to be higher on this list so don't feel like I'm in any way diminishing the other games. What scenes would you include in your own list?
