10 Industry-Defining Video Games That Are Nowhere To Be Seen
8. Metroid
When you combine an kick-ass protagonist who is a bounty hunter by trade (and who happens to be a woman), a delightful blend of non-linear progression and solitary exploration, and a colourful 2D cyberpunk world, the result is the delightful Metroid series. As the series was the first to combine those aforementioned features in a single game, the Metroid franchise has been revered for its innovative way at approaching platform gaming. After spending 16 years as a 2D character, Samus Aran made the successful transition from 2D side-scrolling to 3D first-person shooter and things were looking rosy. Each entry in the Metroid Prime trilogy were gorgeous, cyberpunky 3D shooters that revitalised the series, deepened Samus' character, and presented her without her trusty armour for the first time. When the most recent game in the series, Metroid: Other M, was released in 2010, expectations were high. Average reviews concerning the story and Samus' negative characterisation translated to surprisingly poor sales and the series has been on hiatus since. Featuring Samus in Super Smash Bros Wii U was good and all, but it's time for Samus to make her long-overdue appearance on the Wii U.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
