10 Industry-Defining Video Games That Are Nowhere To Be Seen

Nintendo don't tend to do many racing games, but when they do, they usually knock it out of the park. For the more casual minded racers, there is Mario Kart, one of Nintendo's most successful titles to date. For the racing purists of the time, though, there was F-Zero.

It's a futuristic racer taking place at a breathtaking pace - you need seriously quick reflexes in order to win a race, and it definitely helps to know where all the mines and slip zones are on the track or you'll probably explode. It's a interactive hurricane where the only thing that matters is going faster and faster, unlike the more modern racers which are much more about control. Although more popular in Japan than the West, this style of racing directly inspired arcade classics like Daytona USA and Wipeout, which tells you how influential this series was.

The protagonist, a certain Captain Falcon, has made appearances in other titles, most notably the Super Smash Bros. series, but F-Zero has been largely inactive since the release of GX for the GameCube in 2003 (with some Japan-exclusive titles released afterwards for the Game Boy Advance).

After 10 years of dormancy, maybe it's time to breathe new life back into the old machines?
