Are FromSoftware bosses unfairly brutal?

Of course.

Are they cheap?

Hell, yes!

Do they cheat?

For the most part, no. I mean, Soulsborne enemies unleash instant-kill attacks and barely telegraph their moves, but they still abide by the rules of a straight fight.

Unless you're talking about the Mimic Tear from Elden Ring. Because this mini-boss replicates your likeness, equipped weapons, and spells, arming yourself to the teeth won't help. If you heal, so will he. Hit your evil ersatz with a devastating spell, and he will surely reply in kind.

Because you're basically fighting your reflection, the bout feels unwinnable. So, there's only one way to dispose of this cheater... by cheating. If you enter the Mimic's room wearing nothing but your loincloth, he will duplicate this version of you. After that, you can reequip your entire arsenal and beat the snot out of him with ease.

Yes, I know it's not respectable to cheat to win, even if your opponent isn't playing by the book. And we're all aware two wrongs don't make a right.

But as the old saying goes, "He started it."
