9. Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
What do you get when you combine a puzzle-loving professor of archaeology and a defence lawyer determined to find the truth of every case? A medieval-style adventure about witchcraft, of course!
For this crossover event, the Professor and Phoenix work in tandem with their assistants, Luke and Maya to uncover the secrets of Labyrinthia. The game opens with a young woman, Espella, seeking the Professor’s help, though they are then immediately attacked by “witches”.
Espella escapes via a cargo ship but ends up as a client being defended by Phoenix when she is accused of committing assault. These interactions with Espella result in all parties been transported to Labyrinthia through a mysterious tome.
This leads to the inevitable meeting of Layton, Luke, Phoenix and Maya as they try to make sense of their strange situation. Espella requires Phoenix to defend her in court again, having been accused of witchcraft. Alongside her case, Phoenix must defend clients accused of witchcraft, because, in Labyrinthia, the punishment for being found guilty is being burned alive.
In comparison, the Professor must unravel the secrets of this medieval-esque land by solving puzzles, though not every character wants those mysteries to be revealed.
