2. Baby Pals: A Call To Islam
In the wake of the successful release of games such as Nintendogs, gaming companies sought to replicate these games to various levels of success. The forumla was quiet simple, take something that was cute and appealed to people to play with and take care of and put it in a game, and while it doesn't make for the most exciting of gameplay, it tends to sell well based on the "cute" factor. Cue Crave Entertainment, who had already released Cat Pals, created Baby pals essentially the same game with babies apart from kittens. I'm not sure how prominent this game is, but the theory is funny and insane. Rumors of the game spreading a pro-Islamic message to children through the game begun when a "concerned" (read ignorant) mother swear she heard her 8 year old daughters copy of the game utter the phrase "Islam is the light". The mother, once again concerned for her daughters well being reported this as news and it was picked up. This begun somewhat of a panic as concerned parents sent emails of complaint to Nintendo, the makers of both the game and the console, asking them to pull the game from sales. Crave Entertainment, the publisher of the game, and InXile, the developer of the game, responded to the critics strongly though a statement, using the powerful tools of logic and reason, explaining that they would not pull the games off the shelf, and that the sounds made in the game had come from a recording of a 5 month old babbling noises, and received 200 hours of product testing so there was not one recognizable English word or Phrase, let alone full sentence with correct grammar. Many are still waiting for Crave Entertainment to apologize for Pur Pals, a similar concept to Baby Pals, but with cats, for it's offensiveness to peoples good tastes, so far, no apology has been forthcoming.
