8. 4,000 PS2 Shipped To Iraq: Saddam, A Sony Fan Boy
Back in the old days, when Nintendo wasn't a joke, and Microsoft hadn't delved into the Console world, and the Sega was still relevant in the video games industry, Sony released the Play Station 2, and kicked off what was to be the next generation of consoles, as Nintendo was gearing up to release the Gamecube and Microsoft was preparing the Xbox for a release, as their first foray into the console industry. The PlayStation 2 was highly successful, knocking Sega out of the race as Nintendo's main competitor, only for Nintendo to shoot itself in the foot with the Gamecube, which even today is still widely panned as a failure to which Nintendo hasn't fully recovered from, allowing Sony to become the new top dog in the video game industry. The PS2, so far ahead of the competitor consoles of the time, was the number 1 requested present come Christmas time. However, right before Christmas 2000, a story was leaked to a website called "World Net Daily" which suggested that US Customs and Military Intelligence had been tracking a shipment of 4000 Consoles ordered by Saddam Hussein. The article stated that the hard drive on the Sony Play Station 2 was so powerful that bundling 20 of the consoles together could provide enough hardware to control a UAV (Unmanned Arial Vehicle), the article also speculated that the consoles could be used to calculate ballistic data for long range missiles, both of which Iraq was supposedly researching at the time and could not get easy access to due to the United Nations sanctions on selling technological equipment to Iraq at the time. Many articles have rubbished this theory, laughing at the idea of the Sony Play Station 2 being used as a "super computer", stating that the article's author has been duped by a marketing mouth of Sony and stating that Saddam's order of PS2s is more likely to be because of Saddam's want to have the highest score on a game. A more recent story came out regarding Saddam, claiming that when the ousted dictator was found in his hiding place, he was cooped up with a PS2, playing Madden 2004, so maybe Saddam was a Sony Fan boy after all.
