Whilst there’s nothing wrong with a standard hack and slash action game, adding elements from RPGs and some puzzle solving is how we get to award winning titles such as God of War.

Many developers have looked to other genres to influence their games. Some crossovers work so well together it’s like they were made for it. Others feel as though two things were picked from a hat as a personal challenge.

Odama gets the honour of being the last GameCube title exclusive ever released and what a way to go: it's a real time strategy pinball game.

By bouncing the legendary weapon Odama off paddles and tilting the battlefield like a giant, feudal pinball machine; it’s the goal of the player to break down gates and barriers. This allows your troops to move in and battle the defending army. You can assist by crushing the opposing force with the Odama and should do your best to avoid your own men.

The game’s boards have different objectives to complete using both the Odama and your reserve of troops, but also the GameCube microphone which is used to rally and command your army.

Microphone, you say? Yes, it's not all that surprising to discover that this is also the work of the auteur of the bizarre Yoot Saito. Odama is an entirely functional but altogether weird experience.
