10 Insanely Confusing Video Games Levels You Got Totally Lost In

7. Vivec - Morrowind

One of the unique and charming things about Morrowind is that while it has a half-decent map and navigation system, it doesn't in any way hold your hand, and you often need to rely on good old-fashioned roadsigns or word of mouth to find certain places in the game.

But one area where a satnav system would've been handy is the central city of Vivec, an impressive but disorienting place made up of nine pyramid-like islands that are connected to each other via walkways. Almost all of these cantons look identical, with each one having four tiers, so your map is completely useless at telling you where you'll find stairs to ascend the cantons, and walkways to move between them.

If you find yourself on the ground level, then a nifty trick is to use the boatman to take you across the water to whichever canton you want to get to, turning your visit into a Venice-like sightseeing tour rather than 'gerbil trapped in a maze' experience.
