10 Insanely Confusing Video Games Levels You Got Totally Lost In

8. Any Dungeon - Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

Flying way back in time to the days before such notions as 'user-friendly' existed, the dungeons in the infamously oversized second entry in the Elder Scrolls series were dark, hellish warrens that consumed many an intrepid traveller.

Filled with identikit textures, and a grim palette of murky greys and browns, Daggerfall's dungeons were huge and procedurally-generated, meaning that there was pretty much no way to memorise their layout. There was a so-called automap that appeared as you explored, but it was so convoluted that you were better off grabbing a pen and graph paper, and mapping the places out yourself.

The forcibly intricate nature of these dungeons were enough to put plenty of people off from pushing on with Daggerfall, particularly those coming to it from a position of privilege like Oblivion.
