10 Insanely Cool Video Game Mechanics You Forgot About

6. Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets (Console Version) (2002) - Free Flying

Whether it’s the Lego games or the movie tie-ins, Harry Potter video games have brought fans of the wizarding series into its magical world to play as their favourite characters. From casting spells, exploring Hogwarts, and playing Quidditch, these games have allowed players to live their wizard fantasies. However, the magic wouldn't be complete without flying a broomstick.

Flying has been part of the series ever since The Philosopher’s Stone game, even if it was restricted to certain levels. In console versions of the second game, however, Harry was able to hop onto his trusty broom and fly around the castle grounds at will.

After completing one of the Quidditch practice lessons, players are gifted a broomstick which they can then equip from their inventory and use at the press of a button. Although there are some minor differences between how this mechanic works in each of the console versions (mainly where Harry can take-off and land), the ability to soar around the castle was nevertheless a delightful treat for fans which immersed them further into the world.

This mechanic has recently reappeared in Hogwarts Legacy, where it remains just as fun as it was in Chaber Of Secrets.
