10 Insanely Long Open-World Games That ARE Worth Finishing

1. Xenoblade Chronicles

While not quite as long as, say, Red Dead Redemption 2, Xenoblade Chronicles is the only rival for games like Elden Ring for just feeling gigantic. Every area in this game could be the open world in a different game with their sheer size alone, giving the player the sense of being the only player left in a long-dead MMORPG.

The story sees you trekking across two continent-sized giant god robot things, and the game's presentation makes you constantly aware of just how much ground you are covering. On top of that, some sidequests can take the entire breadth of the game to complete, like the Colony 6 rebuilding quest.

It's very easy to not want to finish this thing, or to try and just fall off for so long you don't feel like getting back into it because you just KNOW you've forgotten something really important that you were doing before your break - a common issue with pretty much all of these games. But like the previous entries, Xenoblade Chronicles is 100% worth finishing.

Not only is the story one of the most satisfying and jaw-dropping experiences in the history of the medium, but your every action leaves a tangible impact on the world. That Colony 6 rebuilding quest? You get to watch as this city puts itself back together across the game.

Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the longest games you will likely ever play, but when you get to the end, and see those credits roll, there will be no doubt that it was worth it.
