10 INSULTING Nintendo Switch Games

9. Mortal Kombat 1

As noted, it’s always a positive to see current-generation titles released for the Nintendo Switch alongside its other console counterparts. The caveat to this, of course, is that technological compromises will naturally have to be made in most cases.

In terms of resolution, visual quality and so on, games will often have to be “shrunk down” during the porting process, and Switch gamers have had to make their peace with that. It’s a different matter entirely, however, when a game is so compromised that it’s barely playable. Or recognizable.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Switch port, while proudly boasting a full retail price tag and effective content parity with other versions, ran terribly on release, with muddy visuals, lengthy load times and a jarring, flickbook-esque performance once battle finally began.

An October 2023 patch began the vital work of fixing the title up, but it remains to be seen whether it will reach an appropriate quality in the future.
