6. Almost Got It - Guitar Hero 3

Even though it'll be remembered as a flash in the pan fad, it should never be forgotten how much joy Guitar Hero (and Rock Band) brought to the lives of gamers during the 2000s. Playing through a huge library of great, varied tunes while learning a genuine new skill with the plastic musical instruments brought a unique thrill to the world of gaming that was tragically ran into the ground.

It really was a learning experience as well, as pretty much nobody jumped into Guitar Hero already being a master of the plastic axe. Even easy mode took some getting used to, and you'd fail time and time again to successfully complete a song from start to finish, never mind aim for 100% perfection.

That meant, however, that while nailing a perfect performance on Expert brought unparalleled euphoria, failing a song just before getting to the end brought the kind of pain that only the best video games can. At least Guitar Hero 3 rewarded you for these near misses though, and would give you the "Almost Got It" achievement for failing a song after getting through 90% of it.
