10 Intense Video Game Multiplayer Modes You Won't Survive
7. Duelling - Nidhogg
Nidhogg is a deceptively simply game that will absolutely break you down if you let it. It's essentially a 1v1 duelling experience, where two animated 2D sprites can turn to mush with one well-placed swing of the sword. It's not really about killing, though, more pushing through to your opponent's base on their side of the screen. Either you goad them into a retreat by forcing them to go on the defensive, or you kill them and close the gap while they're respawning.
The catch is that it's one hit and you're dead, and the margin for error is huge. Everything, from how far away you are from the enemy to where you're holding your sword has to be thought about before making a move, as all it takes is one smart attack for you to lose the progress made over the past 10 minutes of battle.
It becomes an intense push and pull where the two of you are trying to gain ground on the other - the kind of set up that can turn lifelong friends into enemies.
