10 Interesting But Underused Creatures In Dungeons And Dragons

3. Modrons

D&D Creature
Wizards of the Coast

On this list, we have had many beings that represent greed, war, and chaos but now we will look at the other side of the coin. Modrons are strange mechanical creatures that zealously adhere to the principles of law and order. They are represented by different geometric shapes, such as circles and squares with limbs attached. This also tells you their rank in the Modron hierarchy, with more complex shapes being higher. Those that resemble humans are of the highest rank.

Modrons have standing armies that sole purpose is to battle the forces of chaos across the multiverse. Being the creatures of law and order that they are, they fight with logical and proven battle tactics. Do not let their form and nature fool you though, they can be remorseless in battle often found fighting without holding back. They are willing to lay down their lives to maintain order.

While it is clear you cannot trust a chaotic creatures, this will not be so clean cut with the Modrons. Being creatures of logic, they also lack compassion. While your party may try to help a poor family that is homeless, the Modrons may see this as a waste of time that could be spent fighting greater evils. I would like to see the rogue try to explain his thieving ways to one of these creatures.
