10 Interesting But Underused Creatures In Dungeons And Dragons
2. Oni
Hailing from a far-off land, the Oni are giant creatures of great strength and violence. On top of all this, they also have an innate ability with magic. They often use their shape-changing ways to trick unwary travellers into traps. You will never know if that old merchant, or perhaps that nobleman’s daughter, is one of these horrific creatures until it is too late.
While Oni can make substantial attacks with their own sharpened claws, they are never seen without their magical glaive. It is so much a part of them that it can also be transformed to match their disguise, shrinking to match their human form.
Another feature of the Oni is there previously mentioned innate connection to magic, allowing them to cast a number of spells at will. Examples of these are darkness and invisibility. They are also allowed to cast more powerful spells once a day, which include; Charm person, Cone of Cold, Gaseous form and sleep.
These different abilities can be used to aid the Oni’s already powerful shape-changing abilities. This makes them a very dangerous ambush predator that could strike your party at any time.
