10 Most Intriguing Indie Gaming Releases Yet To Come In 2014

10. This War Of Mine

As gamers we've stormed into battle in hundreds of different ways, in hundreds of different places and with hundreds of different guns. War is fertile ground for gaming purposes, giving us an excuse to kill and to fight without all the danger and bloody clothing. This War of Mine, however, give us a completely fresh view on war, not that of the gun-ho soldier mowing down waves upon wave of enemy, but the helpless civilian. As we have been told hundreds of times "War is Hell", but it looks like This War of Mine will try and prove it. This is not going to be a Call of Duty clone, with cooking grenades and kill streaks. This game will focus on eking out survival in an incredibly hostile atmosphere. The game is based around your hideout, with snipers pinning you inside during the day, and scavenging in the wreckage of a city during for supplies. Survival is a big theme in games at the moment, and This War of Mine seems to be mining this same vein. The developers, 11 Bit Studios, have got a good indie pedigree as they were the developers of Anomaly. Anomaly was a great game, but wasn't exactly an emotional journey €“ it was more of an original slant on the tower defence genre. This War of Mine has the potential to be phenomenal, and the setting alone makes it a fascinating prospect for the next year.
