5. Claptrap - Borderlands 3

Now I'm aware that saying Claptrap is annoying is a huge understatement considering he was purpose built to be abrasive by the dev team, but I'm actually just talking about one specific version of Claptrap.

His Borderlands 3 iteration.

In Borderlands 1 he was wacky but still not pushing the boat out too far, plus we got to take out frustrations on him or at least his metal brethren come the Robot Revolution DLC. In Borderlands 2 he's upped the schtick but still managed to come across as lovable thanks to being...well, just pretty pathetic. And yet in Borderlands 3 a lot of that charm has been lost entirely.

Maybe it's down to the voice actor changing, or maybe it's down to the scripting which feels a lot less inventive and a lot more "trying to be current by referencing memes which instantly age it horribly".

The opening section with the stealth-but-not stealth moment is where every player saw the joke coming then were delivered a somehow more annoying joke than what they envisioned. It's not all terrible but my god did I want to put a bullet through his eye multiple times before the end.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
