10 Lengthy Video Games That Were Absolutely Obliterated By Speedrunners

4. Dark Souls Series

As arguably the most challenging set of games on the list, Dark Souls has achieved both critical acclaim and massive success in the gaming community. While it tends to punish foolhardy newcomers and stress a set of extended playthroughs, it hasn't phased the most loyal players.

The challenge of Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3 shows everywhere; brutally difficult combat, harsh punishments for failure and treacherous obstacle block every step of the way. Still though, that hasn't stopped the fanbase from playing it religiously, meticulously picking apart every game in the process.

The Dark Souls trilogy has been out for some time now and players have spent a good part of the last decade honing their skills and playstyles to a razor edge. Every attack pattern, enemy spawn and item location has been assimilated; as a result, the very best members can pull off incredible feats.

Through an array of shortcuts, skilled players can skip through large portions of Dark Souls and get to the end quickly. Even better is the way speed runners can do all of it without once getting hit or levelling up their character at all. Quite frankly it's a staggering achievement, with the best being demonstrated by "SquillaKilla". This madman went through all three games in seven hours damage-free as opposed to the hundreds it usually takes.
