10 Lengthy Video Games That Were Absolutely Obliterated By Speedrunners
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The latest and arguably greatest 3D Zelda launched the Nintendo Switch with a bang back in 2017 and from the get-go the developer promised it would be the grandest and most wide-open adventure players would ever undertake in the series.
From the moment Link steps out onto The Great Plateau at the start of the game, it's clear that players have a mountain of content to digest. Miles of terrain, hundreds of shrine dungeons and a horde of tough enemy fighters, all of it feeds into the game's central goal of awakening the four divine beasts and tackling Calamity Ganon.
In keeping with its theme of freedom however, you don't have to spend too long doing all of these tasks. Instead if you possess the skill and knowledge of the landscape, it's possible to take the fight straight to the final boss without any weapons or equipment. This has fostered a dedicated speed running community; much like previous games in the series, playing through as fast as possible has formed a new means of play.
Taking advantage of many exploits, quick resource gathering and often forgoing many items, players can beat Breath of the Wild very quickly. The user "sketodara01414" recently set a new record of just under twenty-seven minutes.
