9. Joe Barbaro - Mafia 3
Perhaps the same could be said for characters in Mafia game that is true of Game of Thrones: don't get attached to them, they'll probably end up dying.
Given the nature of Vito Scaletta and his buddy, Joe Barbaro, you wouldn't be forgiven for thinking that one of them is going to end up wearing concrete boots. And it wouldn't be our protagonist, Vito, would it? Capiche?
So, when it seems like Joe is presumably kidnapped towards the end of Mafia II, you'd be thinking that was it. Done deal, badda bing, badda boom.
Alright, I'm out of mafia-isms.
Yet when Vito shows up in the criminally underrated (sorry) Mafia 3, it seems our boy Joe's fate was left hanging in the air.
Seems Vito still hasn't found out who's responsible for Joe's kidnap and [presumed] death, so he sends Lincoln out on a potential revenge mission.
It was an unexpected slice of continuity that fans weren't really expecting, having Joe's fate seemingly written at the end of the second game. Fan service, or tenuous connection tying the games together...?
