10 Major Controversies That Killed Great Video Games
7. Alien Anal Probes Making Co-Operative Impossible - Saint's Row IV
The Saints Row franchise has made a name for itself for being one of the wildest series of games going, and the fourth instalment in the series is certainly no different. Developed by Volition and published by Deep Silver in 2013, it puts the player at the head of the infamous 3rd Street Saints gang where they become the President of the United States and must fend off an army of invading aliens.
The game featured a unique sense of humour, a vibrant open world filled with plenty of side missions and storylines, and managed to incorporate the superhero and supernatural aspects originally planned for its predecessors. It sold over a million copies in its first month and garnered some pretty solid reviews from fans and critics, but would find itself stunted by a high profile ban on the game in Australia.
Saint's Row IV featured drug use and an in-game alien probe weapon which made the game the first under the Australian Classification Board's new rules to be denied a rating. Volition removed these two features in order to push through the ban in response, but this only made that game's particular co-operative version unplayable with every other one around the world, going a long way to spoil the fun for Antipodean players.
