10 Major Fallout 4 Problems The Fans Won’t Admit
9. The Combat Still Hasn't Been Properly Refined
Like the third person perspective issues, combat has been a problem in Fallout games for quite some time. In fact, it seems to be another of the problems that Bethesda is persistently wrestling with in the Elder Scrolls series as well.
But while combat in Skyrim took a step forward compared to its predecessor, Fallout 4 has barely improved on the system at work in Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas. Obviously the V.A.T.S mode is there to be used and taken advantage of, but it's still far too essential to make it really feel like an alternative.
The free-hand combat in Fallout 4 is - excuse the pun - extremely hit or miss. Melee combat is little more than a baseball slog and a twist of the waist, while free-hand shooting is a horror even in first person mode. Hitting a precise target from anything over a few metres away is virtually impossible without V.A.T.S.
The combat is one of the elements of Fallout 4 that gets old the quickest; if anything is going to tire you out over a long session playing the game, it's this.
